When I arrived at Michael and Dechen’s home, one of the sisters came and opened the door for me and told me Dechen was upstairs. She ran off and I wandered up on my own.
I saw photos all over the walls. Old film ones, of parents, grandparents and children. I saw little sentences of positive writing and as I slowly made my way up the stairs, the guitars and instruments caught my eye.
When I finally reached the top floor of their 3 story home, I saw Dechen. The last time I saw her was when she first came and met me months before hand. We didn’t get to speak for long when we first met, probably 20 minutes.
So we had 20 minutes of history behind us.
As I entered the room, she says to me, “Oh hey, have you eaten breakfast yet?”.
Words can’t help me explain how that made me feel, but I knew I was photographing two people, that had something special going on.
